- Fort Payne High School health care students came away winners in the state Health Occupuaton Sutdents of America Leadership Conference in Montgomery recently. Dustin McMahan and Ariana Gorman competed in CPR/First Aid and placed first in the state; Jake Davis and Kenzi Brown competed in Community Emergency Response Team and placed third in the state. - Fort Payne High School wins Real World Design Challenge for the second time in a row. "The Fort Payne Seven" is named statewide champions again. The Real World Design Challenge is an aerospace and engineering design competition that empowers high school students with real world experiences that are required for success in real jobs and careers in the 21st century. The challenge: to design a Small Unmanned Aircraft System which includes one or more fixed-wing UAVs, and to develop a business plan in support of commercial applications based on a specific mission scenario. - Fort Payne High School Transition to iPads nearly seamless. Said teacher Jackie Jennings, "It's definitely opened up and enhanced my ability to reach students. It also helps students who were absent keep up with what's going on in class. You used to have parents come in to get assignments. Now, I can send assignments directly to students." Now that the iPads have been distributed at the High School, Brian Anderson said the next step in the plan is to distribute iPads at Fort Payne Middle School. Read More November 19, 2012
- Made In DeKalb was a success. The Times-Journal interviewed several principals and business owners to get their take on the event. Tammy Abernathy, an executive administration assistant at GH Metal Solutions, thought the event was very organized. Regional developer Joey Jennings, of JET Polymer Recycling, made a few business contacts and enjoyed talking with the students. Fort Payne High School Principal Brian Jett got only good feedback from his students. President Ron Carman, of C & P Plastics, came from Texas to attend the Expo. - Vulcraft, Inc. NUCOR plant earns safety honor from OSHA. The plant became the 21st out of 50 plants across the nation to earn Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) status. General Manager Kevin Barksdale said, "We began working on the VPP initiative about two years ago, so we are very proud to achieve that status." Read More September 1,2012
